This may be the best credit card (February 2012)

Many of the best credit card deals are available only to consumers who have a credit score of 700+.  Remember that many cash-back cards have high interest rates on balances, so pay off the total amount monthly.  Fidelity Investment Rewards American Express offers a flat 2% back on all purchases, the only card for new customers that does this.  The rebates are deposited into a Fidelity brokerage, retirement or college savings account.  Call 866.598.4971 or www.Fidelity.com.

BPA levels soar after eating canned soups

Karin Michaels,  from Harvard Medical School, reports that eating 12 ounces of vegetable soup every day, for only 5 days, raises BPA  1,000%.  BPA is an endocrine-disrupting chemical that may increase risk for heart disease, obesity, and diabetes.  Here’s a unique idea for you:  Make your own vegetable soup (You can add beans for protein, but don’t use beans from cans) and freeze it in small portions in glass made suitable for the freezer.  Don’t use plastic containers that also may have bad chemicals.  Homemade soup is cheaper and healthier for you!  Let’s work together to control Diabetes in Cleveland!

Energy costs too high?

Gary Cantor, HomeEnergyMD.com, says that air sealing first and then insulating is a “very cost-effective energy improvement.” If your home is not tight enough and leaks more air than is necessary. you will get higher energy bills.  Think about having an energy audit done before installing new insulation.  Are there air leaks in the attic or basement?  Air sealing might maximize your energy savings.  Stay warm, Cleveland, and don’t forget to install a set-back thermostat, if you don’t already have one!

Paula Deen says she’ll fight Diabetes

Paula Deen has a plan to fight Diabetes.   She says she wants to serve as a role model for Americans battling this difficult disease.  Cleveland is suffering from an increase in people with Diabetes.  What is the best thing you can do to fight it and its awful complications?  Eat healthy (Lots of veggies ….. the green ones ….. not potatoes or corn, fruit in moderation, low fat protein, and limited carbs and sugar); Move regularly (You don’t need to join a club); and Test your blood sugar often (at least 7 or 8 times a day).  Aim for fasting blood sugar of 100 or lower.  You can do it!  Oh, by the way, if Paula Deen would cook it, don’t eat it, Cleveland!
