Mortgage loan:15 or 30 years?

Many peple who are buying a new property or refinancing their mortgage loan, have decided against a traditional 30 year fixed-rate loan.  A 15 year loan has higher monthly payments, but the interest rates are lower.  You’ll pay off your loan faster and save zillions of dollars over the long run.  Always ask your mortgage loan officer to quote both 30 year and 15 year payments.  I recently refinanced my house for 5 years for 2.5% interest; It has a 15 year term.

What do you do with old U.S. Savings Bonds?

Since January 1, 2012, U.S. Savings Bonds will be sold only electronically through the U.S. Treasury Department’s web site www.TreasuryDirect.gov.  Electronic bonds will be easier to follow and are automatically redeemed when they reach maturity and no longer earn interest.  That’s a good thing!  If you own old paper bonds, you can redeem them, at any time, at banks or other financial institutions.
