North Olmsted graduate wins Jeopardy

Jim Coury, a 20 year old sophomore at Georgetown University won the $100,000 grand prize on Jeopardy, which was shown on TV on Friday the 17th of May 2013 (taped in April 2013).  Congrats to our local North Olmsted hometown winner of the “Jeopardy! College Championship.”

Stern Advertising moving Downtown

Sixty year old Stern Advertising is moving downtown, in mid December 2013, from its Pepper Pike office. It will lease 14,000 square feet  at the Earnst & Young Tower at the Flats East Bank project.

Horseshoe Casino Bringing People Downtown

The Cleveland Horseshoe Casino seeems to have been a great positive for downtown Cleveland …. bringing lots of people downtown, especially on the weekends.  The bars are open and the sports games are on the TV, so lots of young people come downtown just to be around lots of other people.  Restaurants are dooing better since the casino opened.  So, happy first birthday, Horseshoe Casino!

Mortgage Deduction in Ohio helps Homeowners

In Ohio the number of homeowners who take the tax deduction is 26% (for people who own a home and claim a deduction for interest paid on mortgage debt from their gross income) and varies by the amount they claim.  Congress is considering an overhaul of the tax code to balance the budget and may consider dooing away with the mortgage deduction, which may hurt the sale of homes and raise rental rates on housing.

Homeowners are paying their mortgages on time!

The housing market is back and the results are that more Cleveland homeowners, as well as those around the country, are keeping up with their mortgage payments.  The percentage of people with mortgages on their property at least 60 days behind in payments, fell by 21 percent in the first quarter of 2013.  This huge decline in mortgage delinquincy rate is the absolute largest drop on record for TransUnion, who has been keeping this data since 1992.
